There are two hard courts in the middle of Boston common. All drawn with pickle ball lines. No lights available. Courts and nets look well maintained. My group visited the park for a picnic with the idea of playing a bit of tennis and pickle balls. But was quickly asked to empty the court for reservations. Highly recommend playing there with a reservation.

I'm extremely familiar with the Boston Commons in Boston! An Extremely huge public park! January 2017 I was actually asked to do some videos on homelessness at that time, keep in mind I'm living at the Southampton shelter at that time! In December somebody heard me doing Christmas songs at the shelter and that's when they got ahold of my case manager and asked about me if I can possibly do some songs video style at Boston Commons! At that point I had only been through there one time since the Southampton shelter is way on the other side of town! So when they asked me I was very flattered! These videos are still on the YouTube channel under Richard Vernon uhi! And because of my participation in these videos they also gave me the antique Boston Celtics jacket they wanted me to wear in the videos! Now how cool is that? Absolutely beautiful jacket! After they had me done singing an idea came to both of them, that I should try and go up against the Boston singer who did the national anthem for the Boston bruins hockey team, I actually heard the guys singing voice and to be very honest with you I wasn't very impressed! In my opinion he wasn't that good! Any halfway decent singer could have beat this guy! The singing contest they wanted me to have with this guy never came about or materialized and I have no idea why? I know in my heart I could have beat him if I would have had the chance to go up against him! I felt confident and many people felt I could beat him too! Plus if I would have took his position I also would have learned the Canadian national anthem, since the team does travel to Canada I believe there's two Canadian hockey teams! And I would have been offered a contract to sing and I would have gotten paid I believe every week since I would be singing every week! I honestly don't know how the guy got the job singing the national anthem for the Bruins? I know good singers when I hear them but he was not one of them! And yes I would tell him straight to his face! I've sung with people in karaoke situations much better singer than this guy! A year later they were accepting auditions because I guess the guy was retiring? I sent in a made-up CD of doing the national anthem and I never heard a word from them! I don't know if they ever heard the CD or not? And I realized I would have gone up against really good singers, but I was willing to take that chance and hold my own! But that never materialized either! Nevertheless it was pretty cool to be asked to represent the homelessness in a couple of videos at the Boston Commons now on YouTube, when you're a homeless person yourself at the Southampton shelter on the other side of town! That tryout for the bruins never materialized! So I don't know to this day, if they ever received it and listen to it or not? I guess I'll never know! ?

I think it is totally wrong to give it 1 star, I do it in order to get attention and help. I really want to play on this court, but I don’t understand how can I book it. If I go on Play local, Boston Common tennis court doesn’t come up. I’m ok to wait but I can’t find any way to actually book it.

It appears these are in fact semi private courts. You need to reserve the 2 tennis courts in advance. We happened to go to play pickleball and there were 3 courts (temporary nets set up on the tennis court) of college students playing. They reserved the courts and were nice enough to let us join in on their games. The courts also were in need of repair with some large cracks in the cement.

I am a beginner player. I love the courts, and they have great nets. While these courts are nice, as a beginner player, I am not treated well. I am understanding of reservations, but it is extremely difficult to reserve a court. Players rudely take advantage of reserving time slots. People are very dishonest about their reservations. This reservation idea is great, but it is constructed in such a horrible way. Local play has a huge amount of bugs, and it is really hard for beginner players, and players that just want to go for fun to play at these courts. For a community court, I should feel like I can go and have ample amount of time to play. I should not feel like someone else is hovering over me for their spot on the court. I would love it if the app was easier, and time reservations were controlled.

The best part about this court is its location, because if you forgot to bring a ball there’s usually a dog being walked in Boston Common that you can steal a tennis ball from. Better luck next time buddy, I’ve got a championship to win. Anyway, it’s easy to make reservations online here and the court is clean so I recommend

A lot of cracks on court 2, but it's workable. Backboard is pretty nice.

Besides the summer Tenacity youth program, the city needs to prohibit permits to private coaches that take up court time. You can see it on the app where time slots are automatically blocked. Doing so is privatization of public land where the rest of us tax payers can't freely access this public amenity. Shame on the park service for not understanding this simple concept.
